The tide isn’t changing at the office. But I’m in a “you can’t control others, you can only control your reactions to others” kind of a mindset. Not to mention that I absorbed a tremendous amount of satisfaction from my egg sandwich and coffee this morning. From my favorite local greasy spoon, it’s my special once in awhile treat, but I savor every bite. For me, it's always about little things.
I got quite a bit of work done again yesterday- today will involve some bigger projects that won’t give me such a feeling of accomplishment short-term, but as I chug through them I will be glad to get them off my desk. Yesterday, I got in a BFF walk for 30 minutes at lunch with Chris, which was a good time and also some neat weather, warm , breezy and misty, a combo that we don’t see much of here. I had thought about running in town after work, but heard that it was sunny in Placid and so headed home. Mulched 3/4 of the pool garden and went out for a stellar run on the Peninsula Trail/Whiteface Inn Road loop. It was early evening in the woods and just perfect- a bit of sun through the trees, nice, cool breeze, saw at loon on the lake at the damn (we have been hearing them a bit this week, too). Overall, I was just flooded with tons of memories that I own forever– being on the trail with the boys when they were too little to finish on their own, runs with friends, cross-country ski trips on the trails, crisp fall mornings and all kinds of stuff. Despite the fact that I was also recalling how much less effort I had to exert for so many of my prior runs on this route before my injury (it kicked my ASS) I truly had an awesome run and can’t wait to get back there to do another. I know these trails hold a lot more for me through the phases of my life yet to come.
The sun was behind clouds again by the time I got home, but we cooked steak and ate on the deck even still, because it was warm and breezy. After Clutter Control efforts and laundry, the boys hit the hay and I wasn’t far behind them.

Hello there...
ReplyDeletejust happened to see your post over at Use Real Butter, and wanted to wish you all the luck recovering from your injury.
I trained for three marathons, only completed the second - knee problems prevented me from even starting the first run, and took me out of the run at mile 10 - so frustrating, I was crying in the street, limping to the halfway point.
I hope you will fulfill your goal, complete a very healthy half, and go on for the full injury-free!
