What's New in Our World

It has truly been a gorgeous summer in the Adirondacks. We have been loving every minute of it.

We hiked Mt. Marcy- the highest peak in New York State last month.

We are researching (tonight, via kayak) a possible boat-access only camping trip to Taylor Pond for later in the month. We are also hiking Whiteface next week, and doing a 3 day trip to Johns Brook Lodge during the last days of August-- itinerary still to be determined.

The boys come back from their three week summer camp stint on Saturday-- though it was a real treat to see them last week at visiting day, I CAN'T WAIT for them to return and fill the house with noise again-- it's waayyyyy too quiet. And I'm sick of eating Fiber One bars or fruit for dinner because DH is working and there's no one home but me.

I have been a canning fool these days-- pickles, raspberry jam, strawberry jam, and last night----- spiced vanilla plum jam! Hopefully I can make the rest of the plums into jam tonight. It will be great for breakfast but also with BBQ and Asian food! The farm bounty is gorgeous and plentiful. I am carving out spare time each weekend for preserving and freezing from now till the frost hits.

Training for NYC is going well- Sunday was long (12- ran to Saranac Lake and ate at Blue Moon), rest Monday, 6 tempo on Tuesday and today is 5x100 meter strides (done) and then a 3 miler. Gotta fit that in at some point today-- should be easy enough. I think I like this new training plan- very structured with two days off, which I will need after speed and tempo and long miles. Tomorrow-- trail run! Must continue to ready myself for the Xterra 10K coming up soon!
