Recap Redux

A busy but fun weekend.

Friday night, I stopped at S's for a backyard Pampered Chef party and visited with friends. My sister met me there, and we headed home to my house where we blanched and froze peppers and broccoli, and also froze melon balls. We hit the hay and readied ourselves for our first Xterra 10K trail run, not knowing what to expect, other than the fact that I had run the (hilly, hard) course several times. We are totally hooked! It is so much fun, a huge workout and a real challenge! We are in for the Leaf Cruncher 5K in October! The field was so small that, thanks to my sister pacing me, I won my age group! This is especially nice since it was my first race in my new (40-45) age group....you have to race these according to the age that you will be on 12/31/10, and taking the podium with a medal made 40 a little easier to swallow! That night we attended a benefit for my son's ski jump program. Incidentally, in his last jump at practice on Saturday, he twisted his ankle RIDICULOUSLY (like made me nauseous to see it) in his landing, but thank GOD little kids are rubbery and he was fine.

The rest of the weekend, we froze more veggies-- corn, pesto and also slow-roasted tomatoes, which will go into freezer today. Also made another batch of jam (peach, plum and nectarine with vanilla bean and spices-- soooooo good) and the crockpot apple butter is almost done. My sister was a HUGE help.

Tomorrow is our camping trip- two nights and the forecast is not great. Thinking about leaving midday instead of afterwork as tomorrow looks like the best day. It for sure will be fall camping! This remote, boat only lean-to spot is just what the doctor ordered for relaxation, so long as we are warm and dry and well-fed (as if THAT'S ever been an issue for me!)

What's the most fun race you have ever run?
