Sometimes, You Just Get Lucky.

So our boat-camping screening was, to sum it all up, divine. The weather was perfect, the pond is gigantic (814 acres!), silent, and beautiful. How did we not know that it existed a mere 25 minutes from our house? Well, in all fairness, it is because we live in a mountain wilderness area where lots of cool and remote things exist. But, in any event, we kayaked a good 6 or 7 miles and got a great workout while checking out the two lean-tos (quite far from one another). We had stopped at a local store for two killer sandwiches (I got mine in a wrap-- ham, cheddar, pickles, hot pepper, and LTO) and packed waters, fruit and a cookie for each of us. DELISH dinner, and we earned every morsel of it, especially on the way back in when the wind changed direction and we had to work! The weather was perfect– a breezy, sunny summer night. And the best part is that the only 2 upcoming nights that the spot we found preferable was available (closer to the lake, afternoon sun, with a babbling brook 20 feet from the lean-to) is the EXACT TWO NIGHTS that we wanted to go! So those reservations have been made, and we are going OFF THE GRID for 40+ hours in two weeks! YAY!

On the way home, we stopped for ice cream, and I may or may not have had a Squirrel Monkey Tornado (soft vanilla ice cream with peanut butter, banana and peanuts mixed in).....if I DID, it was well worth any caloric burden. Some things just are.
