Let the Games Begin

Ever since I remember, I loved the Olympics. Long before I moved to this Olympic town, where my kids are lucky enough to play and train several times a week at many different Olympic venues (four of the five, to be exact!) I loved the international culture, the competition, the excitement and the stories behind the athletes.

Now, I have two kids who love it just as much as I do. Last night, while Little was at a sleepover, Big and I had an Opening Ceremonies watching party. I just love the parade of nations. Especially exciting is the Ethiopian cross-country ski team-- their sole athlete!!-- who learned the sport at North Country School! So exciting for Big and his schoolmates!

Today, Big is at school on a mountaineering trip and Little was too tired to ski (he NEVER says that, so it must have been a late night!) so we are hanging out on the couch. We just watched the tape of the parade of nations, and now ski jumping and other afternoon coverage has started. I think I will be excited not to go anywhere for the rest of the day (despite the fact that they are relighting our torch here in town at 6pm, 30 years later).

I started the with a xc ski at JBF with the dog and had hoped that I could squeak in a snowshoe later-- but truthfully, I'm not feeling great, and the low key plan really fits the bill.
