Made it through another birthday party for one of the boys-- and this time-- a sleepover with 6 10 year old boys! No one is too worse for the wear- though Big doesn't feel great as he had a cold heading into the whole deal. I'm just glad we did it and it's done. He said he wasn't as much fun as last years.....it was better! Finally quieted down around 1:30 am....I tried not to be grouchy because as I recall, that's half the fun of a big sleepover! When they boys have ONE friend sleep over (which is NOT often) I remind them that it's NOT a big party and they need to go to bed as normal.
Yesterday was a fun day in Keene for the Basketball tournament. It's funny- I was so ready to get out of Keene Valley when we moved 6 years ago. Both the passage of time, the growth of different relationships here in town and the circumstances surround Jeremy's death this fall have changed my perspective a LOT and I now really enjoy being there and seeing all of our old friends that feel a lot more like family. I didn't grow up there, but I totally get it. Then A, Big and Little (and I) had a great dinner at the Ausable Inn- every one was in a good mood and the food was great-- can't ask for more. Came home and took one more try at making the BossMan's Chocolate Marshmallow Cake (which I had goofed up Friday for the birthday party and for which I received much email and phone tutlelage yesterday)....kids said I NAILED it (except it needs a bit more frosting, but I can remedy that) when they had it for breakfast today :). Yeah, that's right, chocolate cake for breakfast. We can be freethinkers like that once in awhile.
I even RAN my longest run since my injury down there yesterday. It was sunny and in the 40's and the mountains and the blue skies made it all the better. 2.5 miles-- although my right hip flexor is talking to me today, I should be in good shape for the 5k next Saturday!!!! YIPPEE. Not even 5 months post surgery.
Today could involve getting to spend some time with three or four different friends at different times...and that's what it's all about. My guys are going skiing for either the last or the second to last time....and I need to do the gym, take a walk, catch up with a few folks, grocery shop and make a nice (possibly Giada inspired) dinner.
YIKES.....it's already 8:24...I'd better get moving!
